Veterinary Assistant/Technician

Position Summary: Onyx Pet Care, LLC is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team of skilled veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing outstanding care to our patients. Key Responsibilities
● Proficient in venipuncture, intravenous catheter placement, anesthetic induction, and endotracheal intubation.
● Proficient in monitoring vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients during preoperative, perioperative, and postoperative phases, ensuring patient stability and recovery.
● Provide continuous postoperative care, including maintaining appropriate body temperature, administering nourishment to fully recovered patients, and addressing medical or behavioral concerns.
● Ensure completion of ancillary services such as ear cleaning, nail trimming, and flea treatment application.
● Prepare perioperative and surgical areas, ensuring all necessary supplies, including surgical glue, sutures, and blades, are stocked and readily available.
● Proficient in using dental ultrasonic scalers, polishers, and performing dental radiographs.
● Proficient in animal restraint techniques for various procedures, including injections, venipuncture, and intubation.
● Administer medications and vaccines according to veterinary protocols.
● Prepare animals for a range of surgical procedures, including spay/neuter, eye enucleation, abscess drainage, wound repair, tail amputations, and aural hematoma treatments.
● Maintain functionality of anesthetic machines, pulse oximeters, scales, and other vital equipment.
● Clean, sonicate, pack, and sterilize surgical instruments, including endotracheal tubes.
● Perform routine cleaning and disinfection of surgery suites and preparation areas throughout the day.
● Possess in-depth knowledge of veterinary medical concepts, including vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks, with the ability to effectively communicate this information to clients.
● Educate clients on Bundle Packages/services offered. Coordinate with external veterinary care providers to ensure comprehensive patient care.
● Deliver exceptional client service, creating a positive experience for both clients and their pets.
● Conduct regular autoclave maintenance, including monitoring distilled water levels, monthly cleaning, and debris removal.
● Perform general husbandry tasks, including laundry services for surgical drapes, towels, and other linens.

Qualifications
● A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their well-being is crucial for success in this role.
● High school diploma or equivalent (required).
● Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or remain on feet for extended periods.
● Assist veterinarians during examination and procedures.
● Ensure clinic cleanliness by maintaining kennels, treatment areas, and equipment.
● Provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating with pet owners regarding their pets’ health needs.
● Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
● Knowledge of veterinary general practice is a plus.
● Familiarity with animal handling techniques and behavior is essential.
● Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and basic veterinary medical terminology.
● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
● Excellent communication skills for interacting with both team members and pet owners.
